Happy 4th of July! We are sitting in our kitchen reading the blogs from Cetus and friends about their adventures crossing the South Pacific. We are getting excited about our own passage and gaining important tips from our experienced cohorts. It is 11 months until we quit the jobs and move aboard Pangaea. We have a lot to accomplish in such a short period of time. I am taking sailing lessons on little reservoirs in Denver, but feeling a ton more confidence as I learn skills that I only pretended to know up to this point. I am mastering my knots and learning how to heave to and perform man overboard rescue on a little J-22. It's not Pangaea but it is a start! It's amazing how much I miss the stability of a heavy keel displacement in really gusty winds. Lots of "puff management" skills developing, thanks to my outstanding and ever so patient instructor Seth at Victoria Sailing School.
Pangaea is under the expert care of Susan and Dennis Ross in La Paz currently overseeing the installation of new teak decks. Reggie, our carpenter, does beautiful work. It has been so hot this summer in La Paz that it's only possible to work in the early morning hours.
Hope you enjoyed our first blog of many to come!!
