Thursday we spent doing odd jobs on Pannikin, grocery shopping & checking out the various chandlers at Marin, adding to our wish list! The wish list just gets bigger & bigger! Our battery charger cannot be fixed, it is completely burnt out, so a new one will have to be purchased.
Friday we hired a car & drove over most of the island. Up into the centre to Morne-Rouge to have a look at the Pitons de Carbet & Mt Pelee – a volcano that last erupted in 1902. We checked out the rum distillery of Saint James in Ste-Marie & then the beautiful archipelago of La Trinite called Presqu’lle de la Caravelle. We stopped for lunch at a lovely little beachside town called Tartane which reminded us of Lennox Head long before the madness of development & expansion overtook it! Back to Marin then to catch up with Michaela & Ulf, our German friends we met in Cadiz, Spain. We caught up over a couple of drinks & had lots of stories to tell each other of our Atlantic crossing. They are heading south to go through the Panama Canal in early March, so sadly we will probably not run into them again. It was wonderful to meet you both. Stay safe & have a great time sailing to Australia!
Saturday we headed out of Marin, stopping at a small protected bay so we could change our sails. Down with the old & up with the new! We continued to the west coast & have stopped in a lovely bay called Anse Chaudiere. We will probably head around the corner to Grande Anse d’Arlet this afternoon & have a look.
