09 January 2014 | Anchorage Hotel, Charlotteville
Ange
We spent two lovely days at Anse Chaudiere, then moved around the corner to Grande Anse d’Arlet – a lovely fishing village on a great beach & an anchorage covered in sea grass. That means turtles!!!! We spent another two days there swimming with turtles & having some great snorkelling sessions. Saw lots of starfish, sea snakes, fish (including two HUGE lionfish!), baby lobsters & of course turtles. The village has a number of small bars along the water front which were great to visit in the afternoons. Jeremy, Susie & Susie’s mum Sandy joined us on Tuesday – some more snorkelling & beers! We made our way north to St Pierre yesterday via Anse Dufour which had some great reef/rock snorkelling. The amount of fish there was amazing & also some pretty good coral. St Pierre is very different to any other town we’ve seen on Martinique – very French in appearance, but also very run down. We had a quick walk around on our arrival yesterday, found the supermarket & the baguette shop (very important!). We had the crew from ‘Joy of Shamrock Quay’ over for nibbles & drinks before watching another episode of ‘True Blood’ Season 6.
Today we have sailed north from Martinique, across the Canal de la Dominique & up to Charlotteville on the west coast of Dominica. We are on a mooring buoy each out the front of the ‘Anchorage Hotel.’ Steve & Jeremy have disappeared in the tender to “book” us into Dominica. We had a very varied crossing, from little wind to a 40 knot squall with driving rain. We did enjoy ourselves though. Passages between the islands have been very rough! Sorry, no photo – internet is too slow!
