Hot mud baths

23 July 2014 | Porto di Levante Isolo Volcano
As well as the rotten egg smell the sitting in and rubbing on the warm/hot mud from the volcano is on offer. Supposedly therapeutic and there are lots of takers. Below the mud pool the sea has hot springs and you find the temperature you like to wash off the residue of the mud pack. The idea is to cover ones self with the mud , let it dry to cracking point before washing it off. They have signs asking that you wash it off in the mud pool not the sea as the pool is reducing in size and the mud not so abundant. The caked people lend to the lunar landscape and blend into the surrounding rocks. We have all participated and Liz says it has worked on her sore ankle......so there you are. We had an easterly blow in the afternoon gusting to 30knts and the anchorage was abandoned by most of the yachts. After a few hours it swung around to the west and they all straggled back. The winds lasted all night and the next day so the holiday makers on the beach(?)were scarce. We plan to make the long trip (3nm) to Lipari tomorrow.
