Isola di Lipari
27 July 2014 | Marina Corta

A leisurely sail across to Lipari using only the head sail. Very enjoyable and the anchorage was picture postcard. We spent a couple of days here exploring the pedestrian only street with the up market retail for the masses of visitors who arrive on the numerous ferries and hydrafoils. Lipari is the largest of the Volcano group of islands and the most populated, half of the population living in Lipari town. There has been some excavations going on and they have uncovered an abundance of evidence of human civilisation...Ruins and remains span from prehistoric thru' prehistoric, Greek, Roman, Norman and Spanish and thye have an excellent museum to house it. In the 20th century large numbers of Liparese migrated to Australia and America but in the 1970/80s the island has revived tourism and it has a very upmarket edge to it.
We have decided to head across to the mainland, not calling in on the other islands along the way. It will be a long day so early to bed even tho' the onshore revelers will keep us awake.
