Back to the big island

06 March 2015 | Soper's Hole Tortola
We left Peter Island after morning tea, and with just the head sail up we enjoyed the 20knt wind for a down wind sail to Soper's Hole on the Western end of Tortola. We anchored close by the customs/immigration building and soon learned that when it came to clearing out, it would be best to wait for the ferries to leave. Soper's Hole was named after the son of McCuthbert Soper, ( they don't name kids like they used to, do they?)who died in 1749 aged 7. This was the end of the golden age of Piracy when this cove was headquarters for buccaneers, freebooters and privateers who secreted ships and treasure here.
We dinghied ashore, had a look around, bought the T shirt and had a couple of drinks.
