Arrived in Colombia

24 March 2015 | Cartagena
We had a brisk start to the trip to Cartagena with a 2 metre swell and sun. We poled the head sail and sat back to enjoy the day.
Next morning the wind dropped to 7-10knots so we cranked up the motor to keep a respectable speed. The gardens of weed are still with us and removing it constantly from the fishing lures has us busy. We eventually bring them in and put them out the next morning…..Why? to give us something to do I guess. The winds picked up each night to 15-20knots which was ideal sailing conditions for us with the poled headsail.
Apart from 4 hours on the last morning around 0300 when the wind hit 30+ and we had to furl the headsail and with one reef in the main, the Man upstairs responded to my request for a better than last time sail into Cartagena . By 0700 we were back with calm sea and 10-15 knts and even tho’ it was overcast and bleak looking we were pleased with the situation. Coming along the coast to the entrance….guess what? We caught a fish…not overly big but still a fish.
We found that the markers to the small ship entrance were in place and working…not like last time coming in in the dark without them working. The anchorage is some distance from the entrance and we were settled in place by 1900 and it was still light. My biggest dislike is arriving somewhere in the dark…. We are anchored off the Club Nautico yacht marina(?). They have been and are continuing to renovate and upgrade the place and we had read it was due for completion by Feb.2015…..well that hasn’t happened and not likely to in the near future. The buildings are shells, but they do have the laundry room and the showers and toilets in some working order. The rest…well maybe next year.
