Out and about in Cartagena
Meanwhile we hit the footpaths for a bit of exercise and a look around. The history of the place is amazing and I loved it last time and a second round of visiting is still a great experience. The Castillo Sa Felipe de Barajas, the old fort built in 1656 with tunnels crisscrossing the whole area. Then there are the remarkable buildings of the old walled city and the monastery overlooking the city. The art sculptures around the public spaces are wonderful. I really love the architecture along with the street food and local transport (non motorised).
We had a great steak in the old city a couple of nights ago after watching a display of national dancing in the street. The old city is alive at night with crowds of locals and tourists. The footpaths lined with local crafts and souvenirs. Cold drinks from hand wheeled carts, skewers cooked over coals on mobile cookers……it all made for a wonderful night out.
We grab a taxi back to the marina. A whole 6000 pesos which is about $2.50.
