Out and about in Panama
29 April 2015 | Panama
While we were waiting for our agent Tito to arrive with our clearance papers and zarpe for the Marqueses, plus our gas bottles, our Swedish line handlers, Annalie and Magnus and ourselves took a taxi to the old Panama town. While it was nice ( hate that word),after the old town of Cartagena in Colombia, it was a little disappointing for me anyway. We did manage a super lunch, got some photos and were told several times we weren't welcome in some areas. They have a lot of poverty and edges of the slum areas are no go zones. We took the hint along with the no photos here, and took a taxi back to the yacht club, where we had dinner. Annalie and Magnus stayed with us for a few days then flew to Peru for 10 days, then they will go back to their boat at Shelter Bay. There are a few yachts here almost ready to leave, most boycotting the Galapagos as we are. Chris and Zibby arrived on Sunday and are moored nearby, so life has become quite social. We plan to leave on Thursday. No wind but we can't stay here for ever. Mr George, Tito's wheels, picked up Gary and all our fuel drums and had them filled for all the motoring we will be doing.
