We had some great snorkelling at Tobacco Cay. Lovely clear water and lots of marine life. Tobacco Cay is very small and does not
provide much protection but the forecast was for a settled night so we stayed. The wind was higher then predicted and more from the
north east than forecast. Lots of rocking and rolling throughout the night as PR lay beam on to some good chop. This morning after a
swim we headed off to nearby Tobacco Range. Tobacco Range is a collection of mangrove keys that promises a quiet night's sleep.
There is a bird sanctuary there and lots of frigate birds. One was busy transporting nesting material and our boat was on its flight path.

Challenges of Life

Yesterday B felt good enough to sail and so we followed our rule of having one good day after illness before sailing. Unfortunately, when
we started up the engine to leave this morning, Allan noticed that the belt for the salt water pump was stretched beyond adjustment. It
was a new belt installed before we left Rio Dulce so a mystery as to why it should already be so stretched. Changing the belt was not
straight forward and so we got off to a very late start.

Of course, the wind was straight on the nose and was at the awkward speed that made sailing less than desirable. Our original
destination was way too much work and so we defaulted to South Water Caye which was only 14 miles away and where we can snorkle
and enjoy the surroundings this afternoon. Tomorrow we will rework our itinerary. Today we will celebrate being back in action.

We spent some lovely time at South Water Caye, snorkeling, cleaning the bottoms of the hulls, visiting with friends and just chilling. We
have returned to Sapodilla. Partially to make a trip in to see the local fruit and veggie truck that comes twice a week and partially to help
Brenda achieve some balance. The battle with her gut is ongoing and maintaining the right diet, enough exercise and keeping anxiety in
check is important. We are looking at the charts and weather; planning the next outing. The captain is happy and healthy. The boat is
working fine. A much more positive experience than last season out.

Today was virtually windless and so we motored from Sapodilla Lagoon to South Water Caye. The weather is so settled that we were
tempted to keep going to Glover Reef but given the rationale behind this trip we are being very cautious. Slow and steady this time out.
The area is excellent for snorkelling and so we will take advantage of the weather to do that and explore some of the area. If all goes
well we will extend our range, Looking forward to snorkelling this afternoon !!

We ended up in Placencia far longer than anticipated. Initially strong gusty winds from where we were headed kept us in the lagoon
anchorage. Finally we provisioned for a good looking weather window and were ready to head out. The morning of our departure we
discovered that the refrigerator was not holding temperature. It didn't make sense to leave the only place that we might find a technician
and the resources to fix the problem and so we stayed on. Finding someone to attend to the matter on the biggest holiday of the country
(Easter) was a challenge and involved lots of "toing and froing"with the dinghy and then the boat itself. Refrigeration was restored, a day
of rest was taken and then yesterday we sailed up to Sapodilla Lagoon which has become a bit of a base for us. A trip into the marina for
laundry, internet and long hot showers and now we are ready to go. There are still lots of boats around from Guatemala for the holiday
week but they will soon be leaving and we have some settled weather ahead. Time to explore.

Finally Some Sailing

This morning we left Sapodilla Lagoon on a blustery 20+ kt. wind out of the ENE. The other boats in the lagoon must have been heading
north because no one else was moving. We decided that since this was our first real sail in some time that we would approach it very
conservatively. With a single reef in the main we scooted along at 7 - 8 knots. It was a glorious morning sail. We dropped the anchor in
the back lagoon at Placencia in time for an early lunch. This stop is about stocking up fresh provisions, renewing our visas and cruising
permit for Belize and sending off the income tax returns. Soon time to decide where we want to play.
