Ocean Reef Yacht Club

Has been awhile since last post. Since then we left George Town and sailed up to Staniels Cay. Relaxed there for awhile and swam with some fishes in the Thunderball grotto. Then up to the Exuma national marine park we anchored off Bell Island and swam with more fishes at the "aquarium".

We left Emerald Bay marina on Saturday and headed down to Georgetown for some supplies. On the way down, my purchase on Amazon [...]

It's Saturday, March 19. Arrived in George Town yesterday afternoon. Lots of boats here as is normal this time of year. Several hundred actually, so a big change from many of our solitary anchorages that we've been use to. Will hang out around here for awhile.

16 March 2016 | Staniels Cay.

In the Exumas

Has been awhile since writing here. We came across from Nassau to Highbirne Cay on the last day of the strong E'lys. Made reasonable time beating into the wind all day with a full main and a bit of the jib. Managed to anchor St Highborne Cay at 18:30 just after sunset.

We then picked a nice day to sail across to Rock Sound in Eleuthra for a day. Worked our way up the west side of Eleuthra to Govenors harbour and then up to Spanish Wells.
Our next crossing took us to Sandy Point in the
Abacos.
Decided to hed straight from there to Freeport to avoid the impending severe thunderstorms that were forecast for the next few days.
So, have been at Ocean a Reef Yacht Club since last Tuesday. Tomorrow, Monday, we will take boat to Knowles Marine in Freeport and haul the boat for the summer.

Had some violent thunder storms go through a couple days ago but all faired well.
So will head across to Cat tomorrow and then go Eleuthra on our way to Freeport. Just a couple weeks till we lay the boat up for GE summer in Freeport. Time is flying.

We left Emerald Bay marina on Saturday and headed down to Georgetown for some supplies. On the way down, my purchase on Amazon of a set of cedar plugs paid off when I hooked a Mahi Mahi. He put up a good fight but I won so, struck fish off the grocery list. We sailed through the last of the races that were going on this week or the Bahamas Family Regatta. Big party week here in George town for that event.
We will stay around here for a bit waiting for a weather window to go across to Cat Island and then up through Eleuthra on our way back to Freeport.

Since then, the weather has been perfect. Light winds, clear sky's and at least 28c.
From Highborne Cay we motored down to Cambridge Cay and met up with Grant and Donna and Fay. Spent a couple days there snorkelling and walking the beaches. Of course lots of good food and drinks. grant and Donna headed off for Eleuthra on Tuesday and we left there this morning. We stopped at Staniels Cay this morning and visited the swimming pigs. Then went to the Staniels Cay yacht club for lunch. In the afternoon, headed down to Black Point on Great Guana Cay. Went for a walk around town and then back to boat to relax in the heat. Will work our way down towards Georgetown in the next few days.
