Good News-Bad News

Hello to all our yachtie friends, it is so long again since I have posted a blog, but the moment has at last arrived that I can talk to you all.

Home!!

The last lap, so we left Garry’s Anchorage at 5.50am to catch the incoming tide to cross the bar. No wind at all. We started down the “mad mile” towards the bar crossing – not for the faint hearted today, it was like a washing machine, however the largest wave we saw was about 3 metres. Finally [...]

Yankee Jack Creek

Off yet again at 5.45 am, I was almost sleepwalking as the skipper did his usual, go, go, now.........

29 October 2011 | Bundaberg

Nearly Home

We had a lovely quiet day in the creek, we even played cards and Scrabble, beaten again!!!

27 October 2011 | Pancake Creek

Dawn Start

Up at 4.30am [we must be mad]! To get to Pancake Creek before tomorrow, when a S Easter is forecast, means a very long haul today. We will pass Cape Capricorn at about 10am before sailing down the outside of Curtis Island and Gladstone etc.

Another Ripper!!

Another day, this time up at 5am and underway at 5.40am. The water is like oil, not a breath of wind. The clouds are quite heavy at present, but it is very early yet.

Day one of Temporary Repairs

08 February 2010 | Laccam Harbour, Havelock Island
Nanette
My mind is now a bit hazy. I am actually writing this day, the 10th February. The last 2 days have been hellish for us all. The internals of the boat on the starboard hull meanwhile were removed and dumped by Irene and I, while the work went on. All dry goods stored in the galley were ruined. So much for so called air tight containers! Not one was dry!! Clothes were floating in the guest forward cabins. We dragged sodden stuff out all day. By dark, 5 pm, we were zombies.

I have not yet mentioned A-Laddin who initially ran along the beach signalling us to come ashore on the only sandy space. He took lines, went neck deep in water to bring stuff to us and generally tried to help. No English made it hard. He referred to himself as "Jetty Coolie". See photo which he insisted upon, even though he was dripping more salt water.
Richard, the skipper and 2 friends, helped saw the rudder through just under the hull. It took them 4 hours of low enough tide to free it. Stuart was on his back in neck high water with saw and grinder, and alternating with the others, the top of the stainless steel reinforced rudder was removed in 3 slices. The local audience craned closer and closer, as you can imagine. However the local entrepreneur came forward with knowledge of an old chap who could make temporary fiberglass repairs!!
