Good News-Bad News

Hello to all our yachtie friends, it is so long again since I have posted a blog, but the moment has at last arrived that I can talk to you all.

Home!!

The last lap, so we left Garry’s Anchorage at 5.50am to catch the incoming tide to cross the bar. No wind at all. We started down the “mad mile” towards the bar crossing – not for the faint hearted today, it was like a washing machine, however the largest wave we saw was about 3 metres. Finally [...]

Yankee Jack Creek

Off yet again at 5.45 am, I was almost sleepwalking as the skipper did his usual, go, go, now.........

29 October 2011 | Bundaberg

Nearly Home

We had a lovely quiet day in the creek, we even played cards and Scrabble, beaten again!!!

27 October 2011 | Pancake Creek

Dawn Start

Up at 4.30am [we must be mad]! To get to Pancake Creek before tomorrow, when a S Easter is forecast, means a very long haul today. We will pass Cape Capricorn at about 10am before sailing down the outside of Curtis Island and Gladstone etc.

Another Ripper!!

Another day, this time up at 5am and underway at 5.40am. The water is like oil, not a breath of wind. The clouds are quite heavy at present, but it is very early yet.

A week on the hard

Well, the first week is over, and we have made huge progress. That is backwards financially, and forwards with work! The starboard engine sadly has one piston that is too badly corroded, so a re-bore and larger pistons. The parts are to be ordered and time is ticking by. The estimate of cost is now horrible, and the time to repair extended by two weeks.
The rudder stock is to have a strengthening sleeve inserted from just inside the rudder upwards 180mm. The rudder itself is to be re built by Kevin. He has also strengthened the hull in the impact area and made extra ribs. This we will do in both hulls.
Seawind may have addressed this area earlier, but this is No 2 hull 1160, and some improvements have been made since then.
This week a new 1160 was delivered to Phuket and Mark, the factory manager for the 1160's came out to commission her. That was indeed fortuitous as he has further advised us, he also approved all that has been done so far.
For me, the mess is depressing, and another 3 weeks is not thrilling! Thank goodness we at least have the hotel unit here overlooking the Marina and Hardstand. Air con and shower...... what bliss. This unit costs about $300 Aud a month ! We eat out each night often with other yachties that we know, so some welcome relief from the yard
