Good News-Bad News

Hello to all our yachtie friends, it is so long again since I have posted a blog, but the moment has at last arrived that I can talk to you all.

Home!!

The last lap, so we left Garry’s Anchorage at 5.50am to catch the incoming tide to cross the bar. No wind at all. We started down the “mad mile” towards the bar crossing – not for the faint hearted today, it was like a washing machine, however the largest wave we saw was about 3 metres. Finally [...]

Yankee Jack Creek

Off yet again at 5.45 am, I was almost sleepwalking as the skipper did his usual, go, go, now.........

29 October 2011 | Bundaberg

Nearly Home

We had a lovely quiet day in the creek, we even played cards and Scrabble, beaten again!!!

27 October 2011 | Pancake Creek

Dawn Start

Up at 4.30am [we must be mad]! To get to Pancake Creek before tomorrow, when a S Easter is forecast, means a very long haul today. We will pass Cape Capricorn at about 10am before sailing down the outside of Curtis Island and Gladstone etc.

Another Ripper!!

Another day, this time up at 5am and underway at 5.40am. The water is like oil, not a breath of wind. The clouds are quite heavy at present, but it is very early yet.

Work Progressing

Nanette
Another week has flown by, and workers have been everywhere. The bent rudder shaft is now straight and an insert made in the vulnerable area. The actual blade is being re constructed and glassed. The parts for the engine are not all here yet, so we will need at least another week!! It is very HOT on the hard, and the air con does not cope after midday.
We have used this time to upgrade some items, including a big pump and new powerful bilge pumps, these will surely never be needed again? The cupboard doors and wood trims are amazing, they look like new. Expertise and care of all the tradesmen is fantastic.
An aside, the specialist dentist is seeing me tomorrow Sunday to finally fit three implants. He is working seven days a week at this time of year, this being his peak period for "Farangs", westerners. The practise driver is coming to pick us up as usual and he will deliver us back afterwards........all no charge!! Imagine this level of service in Aus? It is now 2.45pm Saturday and the woodworker is here putting finishing touches to the timber.
This morning I actually managed to clean the starboard head, it of course was all underwater, so much salt and muck to remove. This is the first area that has had a real clean, the rest of the boat still being in chaos. I keep telling myself that we are getting there. Stuart is just now feeling great pain in the sporran, he has just ordered 3 AGM 200amp hr batteries, these to come from Bangkok. Each one of these weighs 64kgs, that is more than me!!
It is now Monday, and the freezer is being re built , there are 2 men working away in the galley installing a complete new compressor and controllers.
