Good News-Bad News

Hello to all our yachtie friends, it is so long again since I have posted a blog, but the moment has at last arrived that I can talk to you all.

Home!!

The last lap, so we left Garry’s Anchorage at 5.50am to catch the incoming tide to cross the bar. No wind at all. We started down the “mad mile” towards the bar crossing – not for the faint hearted today, it was like a washing machine, however the largest wave we saw was about 3 metres. Finally [...]

Yankee Jack Creek

Off yet again at 5.45 am, I was almost sleepwalking as the skipper did his usual, go, go, now.........

Nearly Home

We had a lovely quiet day in the creek, we even played cards and Scrabble, beaten again!!!

27 October 2011 | Pancake Creek

Dawn Start

Up at 4.30am [we must be mad]! To get to Pancake Creek before tomorrow, when a S Easter is forecast, means a very long haul today. We will pass Cape Capricorn at about 10am before sailing down the outside of Curtis Island and Gladstone etc.

Another Ripper!!

Another day, this time up at 5am and underway at 5.40am. The water is like oil, not a breath of wind. The clouds are quite heavy at present, but it is very early yet.

Race One

25 July 2010 | Miri
Nanette
Yesterday, we moved into the Park Everly City Hotel, all free for two nights! Huge preparation day and we luckily acquired Judy and Paul from the yacht Meridian of Sydney { which has some minor engine problem} so instead of missing out on all the fun they are joining us as crew, this just for the few days of racing. After which they will fly back to Miri.
The first race was a typical around the buoys bay race, but with IRC, Fast cruisers, Slower cruisers, and fourth Ocean Multihulls, these all with 5 minutes between starts. You can perhaps imagine the chaos on the line as we started trying to get through the slow cruisers who had not yet even got to the line! We were completely baulked on the line , but we squeezed through a gap and were off behind Out of The Bag, a 44 foot Bob Oram racer. There was a good breeze, and we stayed in second all the way, This Way UP was third.
In the evening, there was a huge banquet in the hotel with all the local dignitaries and Ministers. This meant long speeches etc, but later there was cultural dancing, and a three girl pop group, who were far too loud to cover their mediocrity! Prizes were then awarded for the day before a very welcome sleep.
