Good News-Bad News

Hello to all our yachtie friends, it is so long again since I have posted a blog, but the moment has at last arrived that I can talk to you all.

Home!!

The last lap, so we left Garry’s Anchorage at 5.50am to catch the incoming tide to cross the bar. No wind at all. We started down the “mad mile” towards the bar crossing – not for the faint hearted today, it was like a washing machine, however the largest wave we saw was about 3 metres. Finally [...]

Yankee Jack Creek

Off yet again at 5.45 am, I was almost sleepwalking as the skipper did his usual, go, go, now.........

29 October 2011 | Bundaberg

Nearly Home

We had a lovely quiet day in the creek, we even played cards and Scrabble, beaten again!!!

27 October 2011 | Pancake Creek

Dawn Start

Up at 4.30am [we must be mad]! To get to Pancake Creek before tomorrow, when a S Easter is forecast, means a very long haul today. We will pass Cape Capricorn at about 10am before sailing down the outside of Curtis Island and Gladstone etc.

Another Ripper!!

Another day, this time up at 5am and underway at 5.40am. The water is like oil, not a breath of wind. The clouds are quite heavy at present, but it is very early yet.

Another Passage Race

Nanette
Yesterday we slept on and off all day until the dinner and prize giving in the evening. These are races of attrition!
The start today was not until 11.20am, this was because the Chief Minister wanted to see us all off.... many complaints as the wind was up at 6 am. We started, monos under spinnaker and us with the code zero. Three knots of wind, yes it had died!!!!! After drifting for an hour or so, suddenly a beautiful sea breeze came in, and all the spinnakers were chaotic. We just gybed and off we went at 9.6kts. Fantastic, we were lying second multihull, but we are of course on handicap. Four hours later and we are still lying second and just holding This Way Up, and Windy Spirit { Chincogan 40}. Our ETA is 21.51 we hope??
Wrong, wrong, we crossed the finish line at 06.29.9 having been becalmed for8 hours in the night, and to make it worse, we were only 7 miles from the finish line........ Stuart was determined to sail to the bitter end, despite our strong protestations!! I found this very hard to bear as total exhaustion claimed us all. Also, the frustration of trying to tack in zero wind and nil steerage, plus the tide taking us backwards. Nil fun. I just hope that Stuart gets his second position that he so determinedly wants.
I am now writing this at anchor at 8am in full sun whilst the others are asleep; I seem to be past it.
