Still looking for Ellies
21 August 2010 | Kinabatangan River
We have spent the last few days cruising around Sukau area , still looking for the pygmy elephants. We have seen many , many, monkeys, mostly Proboscis ones. They are just like little old men sitting on a branch with legs dangling down, see photo.
Last evening we employed Ahmed, who took us on a night safari. He has such quick eyes, he shone his flashlight around and picked up a number of crocodiles, but delightfully , some beautiful birds roosting just low enough for us to get really close for photos. The Kingfishers were fantastic, then we saw 3 owls, one with a kill. My least favourite was a green banded pit viper, I could not leave fast enough!!
Today we will start back down river, hoping still to catch sight of some elephants, Out of the Bag has seen heaps, but we came up two days later, and they must have moved on, what a shame.
The morning fogs on the river are very damp and clammy, and I have suffered asthma, so the sea is beckoning.
