Good News-Bad News

Hello to all our yachtie friends, it is so long again since I have posted a blog, but the moment has at last arrived that I can talk to you all.

Home!!

The last lap, so we left Garry’s Anchorage at 5.50am to catch the incoming tide to cross the bar. No wind at all. We started down the “mad mile” towards the bar crossing – not for the faint hearted today, it was like a washing machine, however the largest wave we saw was about 3 metres. Finally [...]

Yankee Jack Creek

Off yet again at 5.45 am, I was almost sleepwalking as the skipper did his usual, go, go, now.........

Nearly Home

We had a lovely quiet day in the creek, we even played cards and Scrabble, beaten again!!!

27 October 2011 | Pancake Creek

Dawn Start

Up at 4.30am [we must be mad]! To get to Pancake Creek before tomorrow, when a S Easter is forecast, means a very long haul today. We will pass Cape Capricorn at about 10am before sailing down the outside of Curtis Island and Gladstone etc.

Another Ripper!!

Another day, this time up at 5am and underway at 5.40am. The water is like oil, not a breath of wind. The clouds are quite heavy at present, but it is very early yet.

A lot of Miles!

We left Sandakan on 27th August at dawn and did 66 miles to Tangasu Bay 05 25.22 N 119 05.06 E where we anchored at 6pm. A long day, but good progress. Anchorages are difficult to find around here, not good weather protection.
Yesterday the 28th, we left Tangasu at 9.30 as we thought that we only had 25 miles to the next possible anchorage. To go further would mean arriving in coral in the dark, no, very dangerous as there are many uncharted reefs around here. We did however still do it all wrong, because as soon as we rounded the cape we had 20kts on the nose, and wind over tide. It was rough going, eventually we anchored in Dent Haven 05 14.79 N 119 15.45 E.
Now today the 29th we are crossing Darvel Bay towards Semporna. This will be a good 60 mile run. It is a beautiful morning and 4 other boats are now with us.
It was a full 12 hour day, but motor sailing as, yes the wind on the nose again, but we are now anchored in a lovely nook, between two large netted fish farms.
