Good News-Bad News

Hello to all our yachtie friends, it is so long again since I have posted a blog, but the moment has at last arrived that I can talk to you all.

Home!!

The last lap, so we left Garry’s Anchorage at 5.50am to catch the incoming tide to cross the bar. No wind at all. We started down the “mad mile” towards the bar crossing – not for the faint hearted today, it was like a washing machine, however the largest wave we saw was about 3 metres. Finally [...]

Yankee Jack Creek

Off yet again at 5.45 am, I was almost sleepwalking as the skipper did his usual, go, go, now.........

29 October 2011 | Bundaberg

Nearly Home

We had a lovely quiet day in the creek, we even played cards and Scrabble, beaten again!!!

27 October 2011 | Pancake Creek

Dawn Start

Up at 4.30am [we must be mad]! To get to Pancake Creek before tomorrow, when a S Easter is forecast, means a very long haul today. We will pass Cape Capricorn at about 10am before sailing down the outside of Curtis Island and Gladstone etc.

Another Ripper!!

Another day, this time up at 5am and underway at 5.40am. The water is like oil, not a breath of wind. The clouds are quite heavy at present, but it is very early yet.

It is Howling!

Very Windy
Well, we got here just in time, yesterday, Monday, the wind came roaring in at 33kts plus. We have double lines on everywhere and we are yanking against them all the time. David and Sue saw one boat break his line, and they hastily retied it, no owner around.
Now, it is19/10/11 and David and Sue are hiring a car to drive home to Mooloolaba. It has been more than 4 months since we left there. They are enthused now to buy their own cat and cruise further afield.
Stuart and I will again have our old routine to finish our trip back. We hope that the weather is kind to us for the last 500 or so miles.
Meanwhile it is still howling in Mackay, so no hope of leaving yet.
Another day passed, with more howling, gusting winds, and intermittent showers. Stuart plays on his computer and I have purchased a 1000 piece jigsaw to keep me quiet!!
Today is now 20/10/11 and a little less wind, but we will not leave here until we are sure that it is reasonable. [Also I must finish that jigsaw]!
Yet another day gone, jigsaw more than halfway now. As I am writing this ready to send it is 6.30am on 21/10/11. The wind is down to the 20s but the sea is still up. There now being just us two we will leave very early on Monday 24th October and make as much south as we can in the next weather window.
