Good News-Bad News

Hello to all our yachtie friends, it is so long again since I have posted a blog, but the moment has at last arrived that I can talk to you all.

Home!!

The last lap, so we left Garry’s Anchorage at 5.50am to catch the incoming tide to cross the bar. No wind at all. We started down the “mad mile” towards the bar crossing – not for the faint hearted today, it was like a washing machine, however the largest wave we saw was about 3 metres. Finally [...]

Yankee Jack Creek

Off yet again at 5.45 am, I was almost sleepwalking as the skipper did his usual, go, go, now.........

Nearly Home

We had a lovely quiet day in the creek, we even played cards and Scrabble, beaten again!!!

27 October 2011 | Pancake Creek

Dawn Start

Up at 4.30am [we must be mad]! To get to Pancake Creek before tomorrow, when a S Easter is forecast, means a very long haul today. We will pass Cape Capricorn at about 10am before sailing down the outside of Curtis Island and Gladstone etc.

Another Ripper!!

Another day, this time up at 5am and underway at 5.40am. The water is like oil, not a breath of wind. The clouds are quite heavy at present, but it is very early yet.

Nanette & Stuart
Saturday 6th December
Anchor chain off to day to go for re-galvanizing, 4 other yachts doing the same. It is amazing how quickly it gets worn with all the constant anchoring. At 10am off to a reception, coffee sandwiches and cakes at the huge Queensbay Shopping Mall. Then 'shopped till we dropped' - a really nice silk batik boutique provided a skirt and blouse for Nanette and a silk shirt for Stuart. Dinner was a 14 ringet {$6}(for 2) Indian meal in Little India, right next to Chinatown - complemented by the odour of the open sewers running down the both sides of the streets!
Sunday 7th December
A day to spoil ourselves - Susan & Richard Sea Bunny suggested lunch at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel (cf Peninsula in HK or Raffles in Singers). Arrived to find "High Tea" is served noon to 3 on Sundays in the finest British Raj style (porters wear pith helmets long socks and shorts). A bottle of Australian wine complemented an excellent buffet lunch. After lunch we walked all the way back through the old narrow winding lanes of Penang, almost every one had a temple, either Chinese, Buddhist or Hindu. Some incredibly calm and secluded others garish and wierd. Stuart took a lot of movies. We came home to the boat after a very long hot walk and collapsed in the air-con on board - no dinner required!
Monday 8th December
Our Thai visa agent arrived then took us for a guided tour back through Chinatown to get more Passport Photos, past the Muslim butcher shops slaughtering sheep and goats in the street (blood into the open sewers) as today is an Islamic holiday (Abraham/Isaac sacrifice). But the French style bakery we searched for yesterday morning was open so we got some lovely fresh bread for lunch.
