Good News-Bad News

Hello to all our yachtie friends, it is so long again since I have posted a blog, but the moment has at last arrived that I can talk to you all.

Home!!

The last lap, so we left Garry’s Anchorage at 5.50am to catch the incoming tide to cross the bar. No wind at all. We started down the “mad mile” towards the bar crossing – not for the faint hearted today, it was like a washing machine, however the largest wave we saw was about 3 metres. Finally [...]

Yankee Jack Creek

Off yet again at 5.45 am, I was almost sleepwalking as the skipper did his usual, go, go, now.........

29 October 2011 | Bundaberg

Nearly Home

We had a lovely quiet day in the creek, we even played cards and Scrabble, beaten again!!!

27 October 2011 | Pancake Creek

Dawn Start

Up at 4.30am [we must be mad]! To get to Pancake Creek before tomorrow, when a S Easter is forecast, means a very long haul today. We will pass Cape Capricorn at about 10am before sailing down the outside of Curtis Island and Gladstone etc.

26 October 2011 | Great Keppel Island

Another Ripper!!

Another day, this time up at 5am and underway at 5.40am. The water is like oil, not a breath of wind. The clouds are quite heavy at present, but it is very early yet.

An interesting aside re Koh Lipe, there is an immigration officer there { these islands are very near Malaysia, so many tourists come across from Langkawi} who was very nice and friendly and a reasonable opening of the wallet smoothed the waters for us!!
Monday saw us sail across to Langkawi with a good breeze most of the way.
Tuesday ,we hired a car and circumnavigated the Island, including checking out the Royal Langkawi YC, where we had an enjoyable lunch on the deck. Found out the marina charges there, and they are just under $ 20 a day for a cat. We will probably go there soon for a short while as it is almost in the main town of KUAH for duty free shopping and replenishing our very low wine supplies.
Today we had a fantastic ride on a cable car to the top of the mountain, 700mtrs. The views were magnificent and the cable car actually travels between two peaks after reaching the top station, all very high above the trees. Back at the bottom Richard and Stuart purchased more silk shirts { they are cooler to wear} for $10 each
On Thursday 2nd we took the fast ferry to Penang to {a} have the last 2 days with Richard and Irene before they fly back to Edinburgh. {b} Stuart and I will take a trip to the Cameron Highlands for a couple of days R&R in the cool air before coming back to Langkawi to cruise again, and David and Sue coming out from Mooloolaba for a visit , which we look forward to.
Will continue shortly.......
