Good News-Bad News

Hello to all our yachtie friends, it is so long again since I have posted a blog, but the moment has at last arrived that I can talk to you all.

Home!!

The last lap, so we left Garry’s Anchorage at 5.50am to catch the incoming tide to cross the bar. No wind at all. We started down the “mad mile” towards the bar crossing – not for the faint hearted today, it was like a washing machine, however the largest wave we saw was about 3 metres. Finally [...]

Yankee Jack Creek

Off yet again at 5.45 am, I was almost sleepwalking as the skipper did his usual, go, go, now.........

Nearly Home

We had a lovely quiet day in the creek, we even played cards and Scrabble, beaten again!!!

27 October 2011 | Pancake Creek

Dawn Start

Up at 4.30am [we must be mad]! To get to Pancake Creek before tomorrow, when a S Easter is forecast, means a very long haul today. We will pass Cape Capricorn at about 10am before sailing down the outside of Curtis Island and Gladstone etc.

Another Ripper!!

Another day, this time up at 5am and underway at 5.40am. The water is like oil, not a breath of wind. The clouds are quite heavy at present, but it is very early yet.

An eventful week, travelling by ferry, bus ,taxi, etc. The three hour trip on the ferry to Penang was fast and quite OK, but noisy, the same on the return. They play awful music videos at 90 decibels non stop, or a Chinese film with English subtitles that make no sense at all...
The trip to the Cameron Highlands was interesting, but a day was enough to see that every foot of ground is cut and terraced and covered with plastic igloo tunnels full of strawberrys vegies etc. The natural easy slopes were old tea plantations, one still owned by Scottish family for the last 100 years. We had an excellent guide to ourselves, { very few tourists} he took us to the 2000mtrs summit in his very old Land Rover. After which we walked through the "mossy" forest. Moss covers every tree and with heavy rain daily everything just drips, including us. We saw orchids and many wild flowers and birds etc. Our so called 4 star hotel was most disappointing, and almost empty which meant very few staff who showed no interest at all.
Back then on a bus at 8am and 1 and half hours of zig zag roads before hitting the excellent highway back to Penang four hours later.
More heavy rain, and storms. One more of our group was hit with lightening in Langkawi, all electrics lost. We just cross our fingers.....
Last night after our return we met up with a number of our group again, and we all had a great night including Indian food for about $ 7 for two of us!! Why would we return to Aus at the moment????
Today it is still pouring with rain, the WET has arrived.
