Good News-Bad News

Hello to all our yachtie friends, it is so long again since I have posted a blog, but the moment has at last arrived that I can talk to you all.

Home!!

The last lap, so we left Garry’s Anchorage at 5.50am to catch the incoming tide to cross the bar. No wind at all. We started down the “mad mile” towards the bar crossing – not for the faint hearted today, it was like a washing machine, however the largest wave we saw was about 3 metres. Finally [...]

Yankee Jack Creek

Off yet again at 5.45 am, I was almost sleepwalking as the skipper did his usual, go, go, now.........

29 October 2011 | Bundaberg

Nearly Home

We had a lovely quiet day in the creek, we even played cards and Scrabble, beaten again!!!

27 October 2011 | Pancake Creek

Dawn Start

Up at 4.30am [we must be mad]! To get to Pancake Creek before tomorrow, when a S Easter is forecast, means a very long haul today. We will pass Cape Capricorn at about 10am before sailing down the outside of Curtis Island and Gladstone etc.

Another Ripper!!

Another day, this time up at 5am and underway at 5.40am. The water is like oil, not a breath of wind. The clouds are quite heavy at present, but it is very early yet.

Yes!!! At last I managed to equal his score at Scrabble, WOW I was excited!
307 points each and no Richard I did not hit him over the head with the Scrabble Dictionary. However it could not last Stuart redoubled his efforts and concentration and thrashed me again....
To more exiting stuff, we have decided after meeting some othe yachties we know, that we will go to Rebak Marina for a week before heading back to Phuket. Apparently there are a number of our group there, whereas here we know nobody. We have booked in for Saturday and as it is only six miles away, no great effort. We have heard that our arm on the marina here is called "Death Row" due to the number of yachties who fall off the perch whilst here - mind you some of the boats have been here 15 years without moving!!!!!!!
We can then compare all three Langkawi marinas from our own experience for future reference.
Last Sunday our new 20" TV/DVD arrived by courier from Sydney with a new remote for our old 17" model which we then advertised on the notice board and sold within 24 hours. The new owners are very nice people who have invited us to see their new 3 bedroom unit overlooking the bay. They also have a 35'yacht - the point being that a unit in that spot and that big can be purchased for Aud 100,000 with rates of Aud 100 PA. We shall go to have a look if we have time.
More interesting chat, we met an amazing couple in the club bar who have a home here, one in KL and one in a gorgeous village in Switzerland. They are of course now retired but he has been involved in nuclear medicine. They came again last evening with another interesting man, French, who is his neighbour in Switzerland. He also has businesses around the world. We spent ages laughing and talking with these people about their fascinating experiences. They are all coming to see the boat tomorrow as they cannot believe that we can be so comfortable in only 38'.
Now that we have found all the wine shops, best food places and the evening markets for fresh fruit and veg we feel we know Langkawi a bit better.
