Hopetown

We moved from Lanyard Cay to Tilley Cut South. The sailing inside the sea of Abaco is easy, but for the very shallowness. Given that we are currently drawing 6.5 feet because we cannot pull our centerboard up fully (thanks to poor blocking on the hard, our centerboard trunk got crushed in a little). As a result, our path stayed along marked channels. We have both gotten very comfortable sailing in very “skinny” water- it’s not uncommon for us to be moving at full speed with less than 2 feet of water under the bottom of the centerboard!
March 27-28. We moved from Tilley Cut South northward to Hope Town for 2 days where we spent one day exploring the town and the light house and the second day visiting new other boaters we had met previously. Hopetown is very quaint with well-maintained brightly colored homes and cute shops. There is clearly a lot of wealth here as the community has substantially recovered from hurricane Dorian and we heard that rentals in the area are 5-27K per week.
The high point for us was the light house. It is one of only two hand wound light houses in the Bahamas (and the world) with a Coleman Mantle Lamp. We both enjoyed exploring the inner workings even more than the views, we are nerds and proud of it 😊. I am sure that Roger has lots to say about it so I will leave that to him.
