Green Turtle Cay

Susan DeSimone
Today began with Roger's April fools- he told me that he was so focused on the weather fronts coming down from the north that he had completely ignored anything from the tropics and there was a tropical storm brewing. While I anxiously looked at the weather forecast graphic to see what he was talking about, he laughed and told me to look at the date...gotcha! We took a short but lovely sail to Green Turtle Cay which many folks had told us they loved. sai

We had to head out one cut and back in another today. The first cut was made more challenging by the large mega yacht anchored in the middle of the navigable channel complete with jet skiis zipping around playing football. It would have been cool given that one of the foot ball players was supposedly Tom Brady except the yacht and moving targets made it rather challenging to navigate! Whale cut is known to be challenging and certainly the breakers on the reef we had to pass by (photo) had us on high alert. It was fine though, once again showing that if you pay attention to the tide and weather, "challenging" cuts are very doable. (By you, I mean Roger...he's very good at this)

We explored New Plymouth the next morning but not much to share about that spot. At least from this trip, I'm not sure why it is such a favorite.

About:
We met paddling whitewater kayaks. Now, after raising two wonderful adults, we are excited for the next water based phase of our lives together. [...]
Extra:
Pathfinder is a Bristol 38.8, which is an excellent bluewater sailboat. Our search for an trans-oceanic boat started with a spreadsheet containing data on dozens of boats. The Bristol 38.8, and her sister vessels, were at the top of the list "by the numbers." Pathfinder has proven to be a joy to [...]

These are photos taken on our walk out to the preserve (2 miles from the harbor) and as we explored the preserve. It is part of the Bahamanian National Trust holdings that opened 10 years ago. The paths are beautiful and it was wonderful to get into the local forest and understand a bit about the various plants that have been important in the culture and landscape here.
