Rodney bay marina
15 December 2018
The wind was quite strong at 06:00 this morning and we only had 70 miles to go to Saint Lucia then the wind just disappeared so our expected sail time of around 9 hours took us 17, we got int Rodney bay marina in the pitch dark. We were met by the ARC staff and locals with a big basket of fruit a bottle of rum and a rum punch, then within 30 minutes we were off to the main party 🎉 of the week, there was lots of entertainment from stilt walkers to fire dances and limbo. The atmosphere was all party 🎉 the drink was free, with bar staff wandering around with food and nibbles.
It was great meeting up with friends from Gran Canaria again, we all have very different stories about the crossing, it is amazing how much damage has been done to other boats, even though the winds were very kind to us.
Every Friday night a Street is closed to traffic, then thousands of people turn out for a street party, again there is plenty to eat and drink I had jerk chicken 🍗 to start with then I joined a queue for freshly caught marlin and tuna, it all was very tasty. At the main cross roads they pulled out a sound/speaker system that was about 4 metres high, the music wasn’t to my taste and much too loud (I must be getting old) but I danced till gone 01:00 , we were advised about security and our possessions so when it got leary we left and found a great little bar playing Regge music. It was a great night
