Leatherbacks & a sulphur scrub
30 December 2018
Off out again today. We drove up the East coast of the island π΄ to an out of the way beach called Levera, it has a gentle sloping sandy beach π in a small bay, this is known as the home of the Leatherback turtle π’ in Grenada π¬π©, unfortunately for me it is the wrong time of year for them to be coming ashore to lay their eggs, there is a permanent guard (even in off season) to stop people digging around for old eggs π₯
Next we drove a few miles to an old volcano π, we stopped at the rim and looked down, here we looked upon a huge fresh water π¦ lake, it would have been nice to have had a swim πββοΈ but it was inaccessible from where we were.
A few miles further on we came to the highlight of the day, after a very short walk we entered the sulphur springs, it was free entry. I walked around the 5 different areas, (1 application & 4 pools), I got changed, went out to the application area where I met Tattie a young lady who covered me head to toe in (her words) pure sulphur mud, this I had to leave to dry off, next Tattie rubbed all the excess off me, then I was told to take a dip in the first pool where I washed most of it off, next was up to the shallow foot π¦Ά bath π, here I rubbed my foot around in the gravely mixture, this felt great. The final wash off was by someone who pulled bucket fulls of warm water from a well that was 10 metres deep. The final step was back to Tattie who applied cocoa butter all over, the smell was awesome, I wanted to lick π
it off but that didn't feel right.
On the drive back to the boat β΅οΈwe stopped at one of the many roadside bbq's and had chicken π and chips π accompanied by the loudest sound systems around. Today was a great day
