Barmouth

06 August 2020
Ray McDonald
We arrived in Barmouth late this evening after a fantastic night wild camping at Nant-y-Moch Reservoir. The scenery and tranquility there was amazing and we enjoyed a very quiet nights sleep followed by a lovely early morning walk in the hills around the water (it almost felt like being close to a marina :) )
Today we drove up the coast via Tywyn where I did my very first Mountaneering course with the Army (nearly 40 years ago!!) and then on to Barmouth. We are settled in an amazing campsite which is only 5 minutes walk from the beach..... tomorrow Its forecast to be > 30 degrees so I think we might spend some time sunbathing and a BBQ is definately on the cards :)

Deck done: Well, after spending just short of 40 years in the British Army and Dawn having a similar length career in Health Care, we have finally managed to throw off the shackles of a “normal” life on land and have just finished our final preparations of getting Polar Bear II ready for the first stage of our journey to the Med. Packing up our 4 bedroomed house and either selling or dumping all of the worldly possessions we couldn’t fit on board has been emotional but Dawn has been fantastic in separating the wheat from the chafe and with all of our priceless family heirlooms and other articles secure in our daughters home we are happy to embark with what we have literally stuffed on the boat. We intend to depart from Gosport tomorrow (Mon 28 May 18) bound for Cherbourg.
Mast head checked: Anchor and deck lights sorted
Dusk: A beautiful sunset to end the preparation day
