Leaving Trinidad
26 October 2010 | West Indies
Trinidad located in the West Indies is a safe weather port during hurricane season. It sits below the "box" that our insurance company designates as a dangerous area in the hurricane season. We returned on September 1st from our travels to China and the US to visit with friends and family. Another draw of Trinidad is that most of the marine yards are set up for cruisers to have major or minor boat work done while they sit on the "hard". Being our first time here we decided to have all systems checked out as well and getting the bottom painted. We also wanted to clean up some cleats, chase down a roof leak and get the scratches and scrapes on the hull sanded and painted. It is now nearly two months later and we have accomplished most of what we wanted done. The ups were meeting some wonderful cruisers, bonding with our contractor, Cow as well as his workers and being pleased with the final results. The downs were living on the hard in the yard, the heat, and of course underestimating the cost of everything. A problem that did not affect us but was very prevalent was the number of robberies of dinghy motors as well as boat break ins. The cruisers net in the morning continued to remind us, lift it, lock it or lose it. These are the times we live in.
