Back in service at last!
08 June 2018 | Royal Hamilton Yacht Club
Light winds, sunny and warm.
So, after 3 days of struggling, Dragonfly is finally on the move again.
We determined after several mis-tries, that the 40-year-old fuel tank on Dragonfly is so messed up with sediment and other corruption that it just isn't going to work. So yesterday my favourite Cuban diesel mechanic Yunior built a whole new fuel system. We now have a 6.5 gallon outboard motor tank hard-connected to new fuel hoses and located in the lazarette under the helm seat. This, along with two 20 litre jerry cans will give us over 300 miles of range under motor....more than we will ever need.
This morning I left Port Dalhousie's Port Pier Marina for, hopefully, the last time and motored over to Dalhousie Yacht Club's fuel dock to fill up. We left there at 10:30 and motored (there was barely a breath of wind) the27 miles to Royal Hamilton Yacht Club arriving at 3:45. The engine never even hiccuped. I am now confident the it will get me through the Welland Canal.
Once checked in to RHYC I Walked up to Brewer's chandlery and purchased a new deep-cycle battery. So, with all the major issues addressed I believe we are ready for the Welland on Monday.
Keith arrived around 18:00 and we had drinkies in the cockpit and a good dinner at the club. we then had a great jam in the cockpit... I think maybe we are actually now cruising.
