Life on the ocean wave
26 October 2015 | 115nm ENE Richards Bay, SA
Norma and Phil
The fun, the variety, the adventure ... the changeable weather (daily), the sail adjustments (reef in, reef out, gybe, set spi pole, take down spi pole), the repairs (sheared s/s ring for windvane steering control line turning block - now secured to crossbar with jubilee clips ... jubilate jubilee) and the food. Well it is all about the food. The way to maintain morale in any place of deprivation (desert island, prison, sailing yacht) is to have good food regularly. This is Norma's department and, despite the privations, the agonies and the frustrations, Norma produces the most brilliant lunches and dinners (breakfast is DIY) using the freshest ingredients and prepared with a delicacy of touch that would be at home in any Cordon Bleu restaurant. (This is, of course, and understatement, Ed) So, here is a photo of Norma in the galley chopping ginger and garlic for our evening meal.
The currents have been a big feature on this trip and not just as you approach South Africa, so we have been getting OSCAR files daily - this stands for Ocean Surface Current Analysis Realtime, but we think it means Only Some Currents Are Right. Doh.
We have just 115nm to go and yes that depression is heading our way with 20-25kts S and SW - it just had to be. Oh well, dinner will be wonderful anyway.
