There and back - Part 1
07 May 2016 | Beverley, East Yorkshire
So, it's niece's wedding (after 14 years of being together) and it's a big family do in Northern Ireland with people flying in from Canada, England, Belfast Lisburn, Moira etc. and we have to go [you are not striking quite the right note here, Phil. Ed]. So we have been looking forward to this must-not-miss occasion for ... 14 years. We are full of enthusiasm and eagerness [not much better, Ed].
MINNIE B is tucked up in Jacare. On Wednesday 27th April, we flew 1500 miles south to Sao Paulo for a connecting flight, then 1500 miles back north and then we were making ground to London. Train to Anna in Yorkshire, although a suicide on the railway line delayed trains so we miss our connection in Doncaster and Virgin Rail stick us in a taxi to Beverley.
It turned out alright for us but sad about the suicide and their family and friends. General mood on the train was that it was just another inconvenience like a problem with the signalling. Brutalisation of society??
Friday in Beverley sees the start of the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race and all the big teams and names are there, so the town gets in the mood with blue and yellow bunting, shop windows suitably adorned and millions turn out for a fun day ... in the rain. The mood is buoyant and the excitement mounts - they are off and at such speed that if you blink you will miss the 100 or so riders. All very jolly though.
