Finally...A Decent Sail!
23 October 2018
1000 hours, Sunday, 10/20/18 Left Cojo Anchorage. Motor-sailed the whole way to Santa Cruz Island with both sails up. Just not enough wind. Had another visit by a large group of dolphins. They played along Pinocchio's bow wake for a long time. Great entertainment for our motor-sail. More whale sightings with breaches and tail slaps. Arrived Prisoner's Harbor 1705 hours. Ready for a glass of wine to enjoy the sunset.
Our two-night's anchor bow and stern at Prisoner's Harbor was roly-poly! I'm thinking about re-naming the boat "Roly Poly" or "Tippy Cup"! We had a great hike on the ridge of Santa Cruz Island where you can see the Pacific (West side) of the Island.
1000 hours, Tuesday, 10/23/18 "escaped" Prisoners Harbor; Destination: Channel Islands Harbor, Oxnard.
This morning we prayed to the wind gods for a following sea and nice breeze! Got it! Started out on a broad-reach, but in a few hours we were sailing down wind, wing and wing, poled out jib, and preventer on main sail. We gave our auto-Pilot a rest. Auto pilot candidate names so far: Carly (he's so "vane"...maybe a good name for windvane...which is also nameless), Otto (for Auto), Wilson (volleyball in Tom Hanks movie who was a valuable asset), Marina (the Blue Fairy in the Pinocchio Story), and Chepe, (Spanish for Geppetto).
It was fun manually sailing, riding the waves and surfing! We averaged over 7.5 knots, and saw over 9.5 knots at times. We are now officially in SoCal. Weather sunny and warm, t-shirts and shorts. Goodbye fleece and foulies...hopefully.
