So we have been living aboard for a week now! We made it on Thursday 30th, just honouring our promise to set off in April. We motored to Tarbert, which had a pleasing symmetry to it as that's where BBH was berthed when we bought her. Sailing back on Friday, we passed VIC32, the Clyde puffer, who gave us a double toot on her whistle as she steamed by. The weather then went bizarre and too windy so we had some shore leave to explore Culzean Castle, Dumfries House, Mount Stuart and Kelvingrove art gallery. A weather window on May Bank Holiday saw us circumnavigate Great Cumbrae at speed in the sun. We then walked into Largs where election fever was high and the First Minister popped by. R was pleased to see political participation in action. Also witnessed in conversations overheard in Lidl in Saltcoats and on the ferry to Bute. Perhaps the last 16 years and all that effort have not been wasted?
Thursday 7th saw us under sail again speeding up Loch Long at up to 8 knots in a squall and now spending two nights at Castle Carrick in Loch Goil which is very pretty. Walked up a local fell to admire the view; G flushed out a peregrine falcon on the crags. Lots of porpoises and seals around; gannets, eider duck and black gullimots accompany us most places too. Feels good to be out in a Highland(ish) harbour at last; forecast may see us return to Largs though. Guess it is early days yet.
