A Wollochet Weekend
20 April 2014 | TYC Wollochet Outstation
Bruce Kilen - Sun-Rain-Sun
We decided to run away from home for the weekend. I took Helios over to the TYC outstation at Wollochet. I left around noon on Friday and Linda was driving over later. There wasn’t any wind and there was 4 knot ebb current against me, so I used all the tricks to limit its effect and transited the 9.2 miles in 90 minutes. There were no boats at the dock, now that Lester and Linda have moved to Delin docks in Tacoma. There was a minus 1.5 ft tide for the next couple of days, so I tied up on the inside at the end of the dock, which has enough room for Helios under those conditions. I got out the hose and washed down Helios, and the dock. The birds have taken over without someone there all of the time. John and Carol Dorsey arrived at the same time as Linda, and we got them tied up opposite Helios. John told me that there was going to be a gathering of past commodores that were in office around Don Patterson. Don has cancer and wanted a get together. By the early afternoon on Saturday they had all arrived, Don & Stella, Steve & Deanna Keller, Roger & Sue Williams, Alan & Becky Rencowski, Walt & Leslie Burton (drove over). A new member, Jon Jones and his wife Laura also decided to spend the weekend at Wollochet. Saturday was pretty much of a rainout, but Sunday had a beautiful sunrise, and sun most of the day. Linda helped untied Helios and I headed out around 2. I was about 1 mile from Breakwater when the U.S. Coast Guard pulled alongside for an inspection. Everything was in order and I’m good for the next 6 months. Linda came down to help tie Helios up in her slip and we were home by 4:30.
