Yesterday, after a 3 day long survey, we've closed on Bumfuzzle. We found a few issues that will need to be fixed before we set sail for the bash and some that will need attention as soon as we get back. Leaking water tank, bad cooling plate in the refrigerator, electrolysis on the prop shaft, hydraulic cylinders for steering are leaking... Just to name a few. However, the boat overall is solid and we are a couple of very happy sailors! The sea trial was very surprising we had her up to 5+ kts in 9kts of breeze. Before a 33,000lbs boat, that's pretty darn good!

Today is a plumbing day. Double hose clamps on every hose and removing the current 45psi fresh water pump to an adjustable one. Anything under 35psi is safe and won't overload your system including your hot water heater. I also hope to get started on servicing all 8 winches today too.

Another day in Paradise.

Day 1

Ok, first blog post ever and the first day I get to see the boat I am buying. Pretty exciting day! I flew into Mazatlan yesterday from Los Angeles and met my father, Stuart, so we can look at this boat named Bumfuzzle. A 1982 Spindrift 43 Pilothouse. As we made our ascent we turned right over Catalina Island. Always nice to have a birds eye view of the places you love. Gives a great perspective. I guess I should start by saying how I ended up on that flight...

My wife, Patti, and I currently liveaboard a 2005 Catalina 36 with our two dogs, Scout (Chesapeake Bay Retriever) and Piper (Boxer). Great girls, both of them. We've been dreaming of a cruising boat for some time now. 3 weeks ago a boat caught my eye in our marina and ever since that day I have been staring at it every morning. I had no idea what it was, I just knew that I loved it. One day, Patti sends me a link on facebook to a boat for sale, which she never does. I opened the link to Bumfuzzle and was immediately overwhelmed with excitement. I too loved the boat. She says, "We should buy it." That was enough for me. I immediately showed the link to my boat neighbor, Tom Hamilton. He also lives aboard and is taking off on his world cruise this year. He says let's go look at the boat you've been staring at and see what you like about it.

When we get over to the boat I immediately know... it's also a Spindrift 43 pilothouse! So now I knew there was nothing stopping me from buying Bumfuzzle. The boat had found us, not the other way around.

So, here we are, sitting in our hotel room at Casa en Mexico, waiting to meet the surveyor. This is the day... Day 1, where it will all begin.
