Portland part II

12 July 2012 | Portland, ME
Alec Morwood-Portoles
We arrived in Portland on Tuesday at 6:00 PM it is now Thursday 7:00PM, and for the purpose of this blog I don’t know whether to say we have been in Portland for 2 days or 3☺!

Anyway on Wednesday we all went into town to buy groceries, do the laundry, and to stop by West Marine to pick up some boat things. First we put the laundry in the washer, and then we had lunch at a pizza place called OTTO’s it was quite nice. Later we split up and Roan, and Marta went into Whole Foods meanwhile Mark, and I went into West Marine to pick up the boat things [Note: I call the parcels he ordered stuff and things because I don’t know what all of them were] Mark had ordered. Unfortunately at the West Marine store we discovered that the things hadn’t arrived, but they would arrive on Thursday ☹.

When we got back to the boat we all had a lengthy discussion about where we would put a new hammock up. I wanted it to be right on the edge of the cockpit hung up on the posts that hold up the bimini. Marta also wanted it in the cockpit area. Mark wanted it to be hung up between the mast and the forestay. I don’t remember Roan’s opinion [probably because I considered it least important]☺.
We eventually decided to use Mark’s idea, and it has been great! Its out of the way, and comfortable☺. It is really fun to be in because whenever a boat goes by [causing wake] the hammock swings side to side! I have spent a lot of time in the hammock because of that.

Thursday, in the morning, we did a lot of more home schooling than usual [for the summer at least] because my mom forgot to check the math test book [The book that has all the tests in it for the math books we are using] in advance and we had to do tests/quizzes for the entire unit one for math which took us 2 hours to complete. Although we will be doing 3-4 hours a day later on in the voyage, we have only been doing about one hour each day to ease into the 3-4 hours a day 7 days a week routine.

When we went into Portland on Thursday afternoon we went on a tour around Portland in an old fire truck. We also picked up the parcels at West Marine, and got ice cream on the way back.
