Marta Portoles
Por Dos’ crew spent Friday morning in Portland. More specifically, we spent several hours upgrading our fishing gear in the Tackle Shop. We left the shop geared for self-sustenance – we will see if fish and crustaceans got that same memo.
We sailed for a couple of hours and dropped anchor in the West harbor of Great Chebeague Island. Just after Alec and I had put out the anchor rode bridal down, a large tender approached us. We were speculating who that could be, maybe the harbormaster? someone we know? When the skipper pulled alongside and offered for us to take one of his moorings just few feet from his dock. On the same breath, this generous gentleman offered for us to use his bikes and his car. After few speechless moments, we quickly accepted and moved into the more protected area of the harbor where Mr. Mellin had his moorings. The one he offered had a substantial cement block at the bottom, ready for a gale if necessary. Fortunately, we had great weather and very light winds.
Saturday morning we used Mr. Mellin’s dock and walked up to Hamilton beach for some frisbee (Alec and Mark) and some rock skipping (Roan and Marta). Roan established his new personal best (PB) at 14 jumps; my PB was about half of his, and, yes, that was with one rock only. So, we dare you!
We left in the afternoon for Cliff Island.
