Booth Bay-Damariscove Island
20 July 2012 | Booth Bay
Roan Morwood-Portoles
On Friday, July 20th, we left Booth Bay and headed towards Damariscove Island. We had southerly winds, that meant tacking all the way. All of us had an awesome time sailing. Except for Alec, who had an awesome time sleeping the entire way.
As we approached the island I wondered whether or not we would fit. It looked awfully tight in there, with all the other boats in the little cove and the jagged rocks threatening to carve a hole in one of the hulls. We did fit but just barely. We had to drop another anchor off the stern.
After dropping both anchors down and checking that they would hold, we went to the museum for a short period of time. The museum was small, but it had interesting coastal items: skeletons and replicas of birds, even a horseshoe crab! The museum also included a lobster pot buoy with a cage attached to the end of the line diagramming how the Lobster pots work (my favorite). Alec, as always, spent ages studying everything in the museum especially the time line of the island, but he also spared some time to examine the collection of shells. We eventually got Alec away from the museum and headed back to the boat.
