Block Island, Take One

We had a great weekend in Block Island with our friends Bob, Stephanie and Charlotte. They know the place well and they showed us some of their favorite spots: sandy beaches with lots of surf, good selection of restaurants and well stocked grocery shop (this might be not important if you are vacationing but it is critical for us long term cruisers.) They also introduced us to the best donuts ever. My mouth waters remembering the warm donuts that Bob and the kids delivered for our second breakfast (Yes, on the same day – we have no shame.)

Saturday we spent the afternoon on Ballard’s Beach, there were big waves breaking and everybody (except me) ran to catch or get knocked over by them. I went for a walk along the beach and the Old Port breakwater. Later on Stephanie came back from the Ballard’s Inn with a real pineapple full of some exotic and highly alcoholic drink. No little umbrella needed, it does not get more tropical than having one’s drink on a real pineapple. We all strolled along the beach and onto the breakwater. After we got soaking wet from a high wave breaking on the breakwater, we ran for safety and a change of clothing.

We sailed back to Point Judith on Sunday afternoon and after dropping our friends back at their car in Point Judith, we motored to Newport where we planned to stay most of the following week.
