Departed Rotuma

16 May 2013 | Bound for Fiji
Rod
We departed Rotuma this morning about 0645, nadn we are bound for Fiji, Blue Lagoon (remember Brooke Shields awful movie?) They filmed it there.

Our day has been just beautiful, and the sailing wonderful. The wind was forecast to be on our nose - it is. But at less velocity than we expected. We were forecasar some squalls and we got nice white puffy little clouds. So, where we thought today would be a rough and tumble day, it has been a delight. We are fast, but comfortable, so we even celebrated with orange juice, a bite of chocolate and a cookie!

We are about 50 miles south of Rotuma now. The sun has just set, and I just had a special treat. The supply ship that was a Rotuma just appeared on the horizon. (No, I don't know what it shows no AIS.) We were anchord close to them, and it was a great treat to watch them off load this small freighter the old way. All by hand. They all gave us a big wave this morning as we left the anchorage. Now, here they are.

We got a couple of special communiques from special people today. The first is one from our old friend Alison, the 747 pilot who we shared many good times preparing for the Pacific crossing and then along the way to New Zealand. They went to Australia, sold the boat, and went back to work. She flies for United.

The second was from our friend Yoshi who we met in Tuvalu. He is now in Papua New Guinea.

When you are out on the sea, these little treasures are just that. Treasures. We're easy to please sometimes.

Be excellent to each other. Rod and Elisabeth
