Port Vila Departure

09 October 2013 | About 100 miles out.
Rod
Here we are. It is the end of another cruising season, and have now departed Port Vila, Vanuatu. Our destination will, once again, be Majuro, Marshall Islands.

This is Day 2 of our passage to Majuro. We spent the first half of the day yesterday tacking to the east side of Efate, where we could make the decision whether or not to continue make good easting against a counter wind or the head north getting the easting where we can.

The easterly wind was light, and not so bad, so we kept the easterly heading. We turned north this morning shortly before noon. We have a pretty thick overcast, so we didn't see the sun yesterday, but more interesting is that with our overcast, there were no stars, and it was dark dark dark.

We also did a fair bit of motoring yesterday because the wind just went away. We are sailing now and the wind is blowing pretty well from the south, bringing big seas with it. This is helping us put more precious easterly miles behind us as well as north miles. And the seas? Well, we are the Rock and Roll Argonauts after all.

Our position is shown of the right side of the page - just click on the map.

We will continue to keep you posted.
