Day 6

13 October 2013 | About 500 miles north of Port Vila.
Rod
This begins day 6 of our of our passage to Majuro from Vanuatu. It is Monday morning, just past midnight. Elisabeth is sleeping, and I have the midnight to 0300 watch. The clouds are light tonight, so I am enjoying a bright moon lighting up the night. The wind is surprisingly strong - not anything difficult, but blowing in the 20s. This, of course, whips up the seas into an ajatated state. Well yes, I would say they are adgeteted, so the ride is bouncy, like driving a stiffly sprung pick up truck quickly down a dirt road. Best to hang on.

We have reached the one third point of this passage, 500 miles behind us, 1000 to go. It's nice to see the progress when we plot this on the chart. The forecast calls for our wind to go very light soon, so what that means for us is that we will slow down. The second third may take longer than the first. We also have our 11th wedding anniversary coming up on the 22nd. Can we make it to Majuro and celebrate there? We will have to see. Either way, we are happy. We have each other, and that is all we need. Where we are is secondary.

Ok, well, enough. I think I need to adjust the steering vane, the wind has shifted us to the west, and we want a little bit east.

As always our position is shown of the right side of the page - just click on the map. Our day's progress (noon to Noon) is about 146 miles.

We will continue to keep you posted.
