Still in the doldrums

20 October 2013 | About 44 miles south of the equator.
Rod
Sunday, October 20. Day 12. It is still the doldrums, although we have had bits of wind and some sailing time here and there, so we are making progress. Since late yesterday evening, we have been motoring. The forecast is for useable wind to begin blowing on Monday, and which is forecast to continue for the duration of our trip.

We will cross the equator tonight. This will be our fourth equatorial crossing, but it is still just as special as if it were brand new. Since the crossing is tonight, we will have our little celebration tomorrow. The celebration? Well, that will consist of a cold beer with dinner! We are pretty easy to please sometimes, and get excited about simple things.

We also have another celebration coming up. Our wedding anniversary is on Tuesday, so I think we have another little celebration set up. Wow, two beers in one passage. That will be a first for us. Usually, we run a "dry" boat underway.

This trip is not insignificant, by the way. It just dawned on is that this is the longest passage we have made other than the passage from Mexico to the Marquesas, at almost 3000 miles. This trip is 1500 miles, and we have just under 500 yet to go. It's a big trip. As I said, we are in it for 12 days already.

It's all good, and we are happy on board. Elisabeth baked bread yesterday. We have plenty of nice fresh veggies still on board, so we are eating well. Now, let's just have some wind. This is the equatorial region, and it is hot, so when motoring.....real hot down below.

As always our position is shown of the right side of the page - just click on the map.

We will continue to keep you posted.
