I received the following letter from Maximillian , all the way from Isabella, Galapagos. He is asking the yachties to recycle please.....
"I am working for the environmental department of the municipality in Isabela, Galapagos. Now we have a recycling system on all inhabited Galapagos Islands we want to inform the incoming sailing ships also that they apply the waste classification of the island. Until now the sailing boats don’t classify materials such as plastics and bottles and so we have to treat the waste all as unrecyclable and dump in on our landfill.
It is important to include the sailing boats also to safe the biodiversity here since waste is a big risk for animals such as turtles, sea lions and fishes, who mix up small biological particles with colorful plastics. Therefore we would like to put a Chapter on Waste on your homepage and on other frequently used homepages.
This would reduce the amount of waste we have to dump and helps us also locally to show that recycling practices are common amongst foreigners/tourists.
Thanks for a reply and greetings from Isabela"
