Rochelle's Tahiti

If I think back of Tahiti I remember my friends and going to school. My sister and I were very grateful to go to school while we were in Tahiti, we stayed in Tahiti for two years. At school we made a lot of friends and they are special to me because they taught me to speak French.
Our first 6 months in school were at "OHI-TEI TEI "and during this time we went to Rangiroa in the Tuamotus on a school outing. My sister and I enjoyed it very much and although we did not speak French then and most of the time not even understood the French, we started to appreciate the Polynesian way of living.
During this excursion we learned about atolls, pearls, Polynesian rural living, fishing, Polynesian food.....I love Uru, Epu and the best...coconut milk!
After the school holidays, which is quite long in Polynesia - 2 months, my sister and I went to the college de Taravao, me going to 6me and, Mariska to 4me.
Before Tahiti, I have never been to a school before, my mom taught us on the boat. It was quite a shock for me to go to school every day surrounded by 30 children in a classroom for hours, school started at 7.30 and ended 3.30 - that is really looong!
It also took some time to get used to read on the board and then copy in my textbook. I ended up with a headache most of the afternoons! We must be doing something right on the boat, because we were on the same level as the kids in our class, we coped not too bad...and everything was in French!
We loved eating at school - it was a cooked lunch, sometimes not so tasty, but most of the times we had dessert, fruit, yoghurt...yummy!
Over week ends, my friends and I spent a lot of time together. Romane, Camille , Eliza and I went wakeboarding, skurfing, surfing; kayaking and kite surfing! O yes, we also wind surfed. I will also remember the nice picnics we had on the point near Bay Phaeton.
But then it was time to move on. I am sorry leaving my friends behind but we will communicate on the net and I will speak French as often as I can. It was a wonderful experience for us to live in Tahiti; to learn French and Tahitian and to appreciate the Polynesian culture.
MERCI POUR TOUT MES PROF . !
