Aloha All,
A quick update to let you know what's happening now and forthcoming.
We've established a crew for the Tahiti-Hawaii leg. Crew members consist of Rob Ka'uhane, Jenny Guzik, Zane Logan and myself. Rob, you'll remember from the NZ to FP leg. Jenny comes highly recommended by Dee Darby (Fiji-NZ leg) and just helped Greg Gillette sail his Beneteau home from Tahiti. Zane, Joe's oldest son has signed on as well. We can't wait to get started.
North Sails is repairing the mainsail I brought back with me from Tahiti. They are also constructing a brand new mainsail to take back with us. Very important to maintain a proper suit of sails or "quiver", if you will, to insure you can accommodate all sailing conditions anticipated during the voyage.
We've also been assembling items that were lost, broken, or in need of repair/replacement. Mainly, safety and first aid related. There are a few more items that we know we won't find in French Polynesia but are considered must haves, like SPAM.
I plan to leave for Papeete on October 7 with the remainder of the crew scheduled to arrive on October 14. This allows me a week to sort through the boat and call back for someone to grab anything that we've overlooked.
More to follow
