20 Knots Steady and Gusting 35
15 April 2005 | Manteo Waterfront Marina - North Carolina

It's been blowing for three days now! Typical weather for the Outer Banks, it's no wonder they call it the "Graveyard of the Atlantic." Unpredictable weather, high winds, shifting shoals, and not a big selection of places to keep your boat. The marina we live has the most narrow slips, in winds like these it is very difficult to keep your boat from hitting the dock or a piling, no matter how often you retie your docklines, the winds either blow water into or out of the sound. Constant rising and falling of the water level makes it near impossible to keep the boat properly tied. Even with checks every couple of hours, (which i am fortunate enough to be able to do since I work across the street), one good gust and it tips poor Puff right over into a piling on her starboard stern quarter. I know, that's what fenders are for right? Have you ever noticed they move from where you place them quite often? also the one we had on her stbrd qtr there actuall was destoyedn this year by this very sort of weather. Puff can't wait to get a little searoom.
