Yeeehaaa! Long Range Internet is Working!!!
23 August 2009 | Ray here
As the blog title states: The long range Internet is working!!!...a big "Whew" here.
When I first tried to get Wi-Fi on this Dell out in the harbor, I got about 3 websites and two were secure linked so they were not usable... and the third reported low power. Hooked up my Engenious system w/amplified cable and omni-directional antenna and Presto! got like...3 more sites...then I moved the antenna up 4 feet off the deck and got 5 more for a total of 11 sites!!!...the higher I went the more sites I got. I have 30' of amplified cable that I can pull up the mast so odds are increasing. Pretty soon I should be able to get God's Wi-Fi... It's a big deal for us...less travel to the store to get internet.
Next...the AIS system. (Automatic Identification)...picks up ships on our chart plotter in real-time....it's like a very specialized radar receiver system.
Also working on improving or map positioning locator on this website...no we are not out in the middle of the Bay...just not good enough numbers. I'll correct it next update.
