Last Days of the Old Year
30 December 2009 | Happy New Year!
2009 was a big year for us...retirement in July, moving out of Olympia and beginning our "voyage of discovery", moving to Port Townsend, deciding to spend the winter in Poulsbo and finish some boatwork, re-uniting with some of our relatives, doing Christmas in Seattle, and finally having our granddaughter aboard over the new year! Whew! Been a big year.
The un-Sociable Security messed up our checks (November for Sandy, December for me) which makes us even gladder (gladder??) that we didn't leave all the way to Mexico as we had planned last year. We neither one got checks for the months indicated...we're having to wait now for them to correct their mistake...(this'll be good). My one hope was to leave with our checks coming in on time as the thought of not getting a check in transit could be an even greater nightmare (here we can just go into our nearest SS office...once on the water...not so easy). Oh well (shrug) not a thing we can do about it for now...Ahh!...working with good old Uncle Sam!...reminds me of my military days...(sigh).
Jillian, our granddaughter, is spending a week or so with us...she seems to have a ball on the boat and really seems to love it. She "fishes" every day on the dock and yesterday she caught a couple of crabs...fun to watch how serious she is about fishing. She also reads like crazy now (I didn't read as well as she does even in the eighth grade...she's in 2nd! No kidding!!). Anyway, she does her homework and then pretty much gets to do what she wants the rest of the day...in the evening she either reads or watches stuff on TV...Oh and she makes us both look llike beginners on the computer...what happened to my life and brain?...ha!
Starting next month, Sandy and I are supposed to really get going on the boat...we have a lot of projects so it'll be fun getting the autopilot, watermaker, windgenerator, solar panels, and radios up and running before we depart.
For now...just good times with our granddaughter!
